September Baseball Callups

All baseball depth charts need to consider the annual minor league callups in September. September baseball callups are used as a means of allowing teams to have their minor league players compete in the majors for a period of time and to allow for teams to finish up the season with a full roster. Here's a look at how these callups work and the considerations that are involved in them.

Generally all baseball depth charts work in that there are twenty five people on a typical team. However, on September 1 teams each team can use a 40-man roster. This is where players will be able to compete in the major leagues. This is because minor league baseball teams play until the middle part of September. Instead of having their players stay out of baseball for a period of time due to the end of a season a series of players will be able to get into the game later on with the major league teams they are associated with.

A typical 40-man roster can include more than just these callups. They can include players who have recently been called up to a major league team as a means of optional assignment. These are players who are in the minors because of a lack of space on a major league team. Players who are on the 15-day disabled list will be on this roster at other times of the season, but those on the 60-day disabled list will not be there.

Another factor involving the September baseball callups is in regards to keeping players from going to other teams. Players who do not get on the 40-man roster for a major league team during September baseball callups can in some cases be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. These players are ones who are not on the 40-man roster on November 20. Also, the player must have been active for at least ninety days. Also, players who have been signed at age nineteen or older will not be in the draft for four years after the initial time that the player was drafted. This works so that baseball depth charts will not stockpile young prospects that other teams would probably have playing at higher levels in baseball.

September baseball callups are an essential part of baseball depth charts. These callups are used to help with getting prospects into the major leagues after their minor league seasons are over. These callups also work to help with getting teams to be able to keep certain players from the Rule 5 Draft. Overall, they are important for baseball depth charts in that they work to help with adding to the strategy of who to bring up and who to keep in the minors come September.
